The house of Babel

Filed under: general thoughts — admin @ 8:02 pm

I am dreaming about what to put in the house of Babel.  First I thought I can put the following in it.

. Natural Languages

. Program languages

. Sign Languages, such as dactylology,

Under natural languages, I want to put some items that are mainly useful foreign languages learners, such as dictionary, translation, grammar, composition, Answering room for explaining the new words. I have some idea that the person who answered the question will be given score, and the score will help them to get paid. And learn and teach room. and Research room.

You know, currently, not so many languages sites are really useful for users.

GPS

Some days ago, I read some news about that somebody used GPS tracking devices to draw his own picture on the earth. It was a very funny topic.
GPS is very useful. When we go out, we always bring that. You know that GPS normally is used for tracking people, vehicles, goods, crowd control, children, and health care. I think it can be used for many purposes. I have some advices for GPS tracking devices.
Now people are bringing up rare and valuable animals and then send them back to the nature. After they were sent back, it is difficult to track their life. So we heard about that in China after people sent the pandas to the forest, some months later, some were found dead. If we can put GPS tracking devices with the panda, so we can track where it is going. When we want to help it, we can get there soon.
Another thing is about the relief helicopter in the earthquake. Normally when something bad happened, the environment and weather is much worse than the sunny days. It is always good to put GPS tracking devices on every helicopter. So when the helicopter is suffering bad weather, we can track that and go to help quickly

I am living in New York. I think everybody knows that it is a state of the northeast United States. It was admitted as one of the original Thirteen Colonies in 1788. First explored by Samuel de Champlain and Henry Hudson, the region was claimed by the Dutch in 1624 but fell to the English in 1664-1667. The building of the Erie Canal and railroad lines in the 1820’s and 1830’s led to development of the western part of the state and great economic prosperity, establishing New York City as the financial center of the nation. Albany is the capital and New York City the largest metropolis.
Also everybody knows that there is a York city in England. And then you can find a lot of place were named after the place names in England. There are New York, New Jersey, New Orleans, New Hampshire and so on.
I was thinking about the intellectual property issues. For example Japanese always yelled at Chinese about that Chinese copy some of the Japanese names. Did anybody ever think about the Kanji characters, which were most from China. I hope they quit using all the Kanji characters that came from China.

Venice

Many people dream to travel in Europe. I got to know Europe when I was in high school from the history text book. There were two books about world history. I was impressed a lot by the Renaissance. In our Chinese text book, The Merchant of Venice, written by William Shakespeare was translated to Chinese. I was attracted by story. I like history very much. So from that time I dreamed about going to Europe. At that time, going to other country was really a daydream for me.
There are many way traveling in Europe. You can travel by boat because everybody knows Venice is a watery city, which is a city of northeast Italy on islets within a lagoon in the Gulf of Venice, a wide inlet of the northern Adriatic Sea.
Venice was founded in the 5th century a.d. by refugees fleeing the Lombard invaders who had gained control of the mainland. It became a major maritime power by the 13th century and spread its influence over northern Italy by the 15th century.
Such history attracted me a lot. You know, that a watery city does not mean that you can not drive your car. You can get Car Hire Italy and enjoy your travel too. It is cheap. You can book online. They also offer you a practical and budget-friendly way to travel in Italy at a pace that suits you.

could-not-see-ize?

There is a funny news in Japanese Yahoo. It is talking about that the threatens in the internet become non visualization.

You know that ~ize (~) can make a lot of new transitive verbs, and then from there you could make a lot of new nous with ~ization.

For example there are revolutionize, systemize, unionize

crystallize, hypothesize (~), if you want to push a phrase or a sentence into that place, people would laugh at you.

calvinize, bowdlerize

dramatize, oxidize, iodize

apostatize, sympathize.

Normally, when you make a new word, there are some rules to follow. Otherwise the words you made would be very funny and could not spread.

For example, ~ize, the front part should be one word. After you made the new word, you can add prefix or suffix.

The same as Japanese
