could-not-see-ize?

There is a funny news in Japanese Yahoo. It is talking about that the threatens in the internet become non visualization.

You know that ~ize (~) can make a lot of new transitive verbs, and then from there you could make a lot of new nous with ~ization.

For example there are revolutionize, systemize, unionize

crystallize, hypothesize (~), if you want to push a phrase or a sentence into that place, people would laugh at you.

calvinize, bowdlerize

dramatize, oxidize, iodize

apostatize, sympathize.

Normally, when you make a new word, there are some rules to follow. Otherwise the words you made would be very funny and could not spread.

For example, ~ize, the front part should be one word. After you made the new word, you can add prefix or suffix.

ELS and ESL

I almost got messed up by ELS and ESL.

The thing is this. I was looking for some way to get into American University. For foreign people whose native language is not English, you know, you have to have TOEFL score.

And I knew recently there is conditional admission for foreign students. It means that, if you did not have good TOEFL score before you came, you can do this conditional admission. After you came to USA, you can study English.

In this point, I was messed up. Do you think which one was combined with the conditional admission? It was ESL, not ELS!!!!!!!!!!!!

ESL is English as a Second Language.

ELS is English Language School.

So I tell you, Be careful.

R and L

It is difficult for Japanese to pronounce R. Normally just pronounce R as L.

Everybody knows that there is no retroflex (eg, R sound) in Japanese. Somebody wants to say that is some physiological deficiency of Japanese. I do not agree on that. If you could not pronounce Arabic ( language ), do you think you have some physiological deficiency?

For me, learning a foreign language is just some mouth practice. If you get the point and practise enough, everybody can do that.

I believe most of us can whistle, remember, at such time, your mouth and your tongue are ready to pronounce R very well.

You can have a try now. Soon you will find the difference between R and L.

For Japanese to improve their English level

The main problem of Japanese speakers’ English level is that most of Japanese read English using Katagana. You can say Japanese English is Katagana-English.

The problem of the main problem is that when Japanese study English, the teacher normally only teach them grammar.

For mastering a foreign language, the first and the basic thing is to master the pronunciation.

For Japanese, if you want to improve your English level, you can try the following thing.

1, Start from zero, ie. start from the pronunciation of the 26 alphabets.

2. Do not use any Katagana to mark any English words to help you to remember English vocabulary.

3. Speak it out

4, repeat 1, 2, and 3.
